Description

Factory-authorized training in the detailed knowledge and skills required for installation of iDirect remote VSAT terminals. In a highly explanatory, self-paced tutorial environment, this course takes the student through a step-by-step installation process using simulations of the real-world behavior of satellite links, the iDirect VSAT hardware and software, and typical installation test equipment. Second edition: includes eVOLUTION series satellite routers and other new materials. Note: prior to entering the course, you must agree to Non-Disclosure Statement which is a legal agreement between you and iDirect Networks Inc.

  • iNFINITI 3100, 5100, 5150, 5300, 5350, 7300, 7350
  • eVOLUTION X1, X1 Outdoor, X3, X5, X7, 8350, iConnex e800, e850mp series

Audience:

The course is appropriate for all installers and field technicians who may be responsible for activating iDirect terminals, as well as NOC technicians and support staff who interact with field technicians or simply need a solid introduction to iDirect networks. The course is ideal preparation for iDirect’s IOM classroom courses.

Prerequisites:

GVF courses 510, 520, and 521.

Delivery:

Animated & interactive HTML/Flash, self-paced, on-line format. Requires Internet access while studying the course material. High speed access is preferred but is NOT required. Student's computer must have a current browser and the current version of the Adobe Flash player (free) installed.

Tests:

Each lesson contains a mandatory quiz; some lessons may also contain simulator-based skill assessments. All pages must be viewed and all quizzes and simulator tests must be passed in order to complete the course.

Certification:

Students who pass this course and hold GVF Advanced VSAT Satcom Professional Certification will receive the Satcom Professional: iDirect Specialist Certification.

Lessons

12 lessons
  1. Course introduction and iDirect overview.
  2. Network operation, including TDM/TDMA MF access, iNFINITI and eVOLUTION carrier formats, encryption, fade completion, and uplink power control mechanisms.
  3. Remote equipment overview, covering block diagram, iNFINITI and eVOLUTION indoor units, connections and indicators, using Ethernet ports, selecting a compatible BUC, LNB, cable, connectors, and antenna.
  4. Software tour, including reading an OPTIONS file, installing and using iSite, and Web iSite.
  5. Preparation and assembly, with a comprehensive step-by-step procedure, determining look angles, site survey, cable length limits, finding cold sky, and attaching crimp connectors.
  6. Configuring the satellite router, covering Ethernet interfaces, setting IP addresses, loading packages and OPTIONS files, and configuring an X1 terminal with Web iSite.
  7. Antenna pointing, including using iSite pointing mode and dynamic graph, using a voltmeter for signal measurement, operating a typical 1.2m antenna with 3-D simulator, presetting polarization, finding the satellite with the simulator, and accurately pointing with the beam-balance method.
  8. Uplink alignment, covering CW test signal setup, aligning cross-pol with the Satellite Access Center, and testing P1dB compression.
  9. Activation and finishing, including working with the Network Control Center, grounding and weatherproofing, testing, and record keeping.
  10. Troubleshooting, including startup issues, factory resets, finding IP addresses, console commands, testing cables, diagnosing link and data connection problems.
  11. Mobile applications, covering mobile remote terminals, communications-on-the-pause (COTP) operation, OpenAMIP, spread spectrum, and Automatic Beam Selection.
  12. Advanced topics, including amplifier saturation and compression, distortion effects, alternative methods for finding MAX PWR, console mode pointing, older generation IDUs, and mesh and iSCPC modes
